Lisbon's Beaches
Lisbon
is home to two beautiful stretches of beach, the Costa do Estoril to the north
of the River Tagus, and the Costa Azul to the south. Both are sandy beaches, perfect
for swimming and sunbathing.
Trains
run from Lisbon to Carcavelos on the Costa do Estoril. This is where you'll find
an excellent beach for families, as the calm blue waters are safe for young children
and adults alike.
The Costa Azul to the south of Lisbon is regarded by many to be one of the finest
in Southern Portugal, but getting there can be difficult without a car. From Lisbon,
it is necessary to take the Ferry to Barreiro south of the River Tagus. From there,
trains to Setubal connect with a regular bus service to the most popular beaches
such as Portinho da Arrábida and Figueirinha.
If
you prefer your weekend break to be more active, the Costa Azul is home to more
sheltered beaches at Lagoa de Albufeira, Sesimbra and Portinho da Arrábida where
you'll find all kinds of watersports facilities available for hire at a reasonable
rate.
